Audio: Mei Staadtla or German songs from the Eagle Mountains

Probably only few of us have knowledge of folk culture and customs of the Germans established in 1945 in the Eagle Mountains. After all visible references to the original German settlement today provide only a stone Calvary individual statues of saints or scattered in the landscape, which usually contain more legible inscriptions in German and also serves as evidence of popular piety in the region. Worse than the written word, of course, transmit or share traditional folk singing. The folk memory orlickohorského therefore have been virtually displaced by German folk songs. In live performance is not meeting with them already, I'm not aware of any publicly available historical records. It's hard to say whether in this state plays a major role in a simple language barrier or perhaps persistent societal sense of inadequacy to talk about Sudeten Germans, who are mostly just for us to abstract an isolated ethnic group who began to write his history in the mid 30th the 20 century, and after several infamous cameo role in the history books (after the war) all returned back to normal.

In this article I present just a few amateur recordings of songs of German (and folk tales), Germans from the Eagle Mountains. Certainly not because if it were a musical gems, but rather to bring the authenticity of local culture. It is worth noting the specific local German dialect, which is in writing.

Addition: Mr. Alois Gall kindly pointed me to an amateur singing group Die Adlergebirger ("Orlickohorští"). Folk group sings original German folk songs from the Eagle Mountains and contemporary works of German expellees. The costumes perform such fairs in Zdobnice, Deštné Olešnice, Neratov and Rokytnice, but also in Poland and Germany.

The first song below is called directly for the song homeland (Heimatlied) Germans from the Eagle Mountains. In practice, it can be heard only in remembrance of their meetings. There are different variations of their names, which are slightly different: Staadtla Mei Mei or Därfla Staadtlalied. The author (text and music) is Pausewang Julius (1859 - 1938) of Mladkov (Wichstadtl). The song's lyrics can be found at the bottom. The first verse reads in translation as follows: "Deep in the valley between the mountains lies my beloved beautiful home."
