OS 1: Earth's biogeographical characteristics of the gate

The first issue of Eagle STUDY Edition, an online periodical focused on regional culture, history and natural beauty of the Eagle Mountains and Podorlicko. The first published work is devoted to Earth's biogeographical characteristics of the gate, and its author is John Divíšek, acting at the Faculty of Masaryk University in Brno.

Earth Gate is a picturesque mountain valley, where the Wild Eagle changes its direction of flow and breaks the path of the main ridge of the Eagle Mountains in Central Bohemia. In the past, separated the German-speaking and Bartošovice českojazyčný Klášterec. Today we understand the Earth as a natural gateway route connecting the Czech basin borders with the Republic of Poland.

Biogeographic research in the valley of the Earth, John Divíšek taken as a student of the Faculty of Science, Masaryk University in Brno, engaged for three years. The research consisted of "reconstruction" of the natural landscape in the state geobiocenological concept prof. A. Goldsmith. This is a defining characteristic communities of plants and animals, which occurred in different parts of the valley, depending on the specific environmental conditions (geology, relief, climate, and hydric soil conditions). This potential, the natural state of Earth's Valley Gate was then compared to its current state, a state of the country exposed to human interference. Based on this comparison were defined more natural, therefore ecologically important part of the valley. The work also provides an overview of the various species of mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles which are observant visitor may encounter. Was also the first time in the valley of the Earth taken a survey schránkatých snail species. The author also tries to highlight the risks, which should be avoided in this area. Such risk may be geographically spread of invasive alien plant species that subsequently displace native species from their natural habitats. This species is as yellow flowering coneflower drip with which we meet in the southern part of the valley on the right bank of the Wild Eagle.

Valley Land Gate is of great importance from both the landscape and ecological and biogeographical point of view. From the landscape point of view it is a valuable habitat balvanitého original riverbed Wild Eagle with interesting rock formations on the slopes above the river. From an environmental perspective, the Earth's major gateway high diversity of flora and fauna, with fragments of mixed forests which once covered almost all of the Eagle Mountains. Biogeographical significance lies in the role of mountain valleys as migration routes as animals and plants from higher altitudes to lower and vice versa.
